The race is on a straight track and goes from a staring line throught a measured distance, most commonly a quarter mile. Electronic timers and speed sensors have been used for over 50 years to measure the results of these races. The fastest vehicles need to deploy a parachute to slow. There are hundreds of types of drag racing, each with different requirements and restrictions on things such as weight, engine size, body style, modifications, and many others.
