There are two species: Bornean orangutan and Sumatran orangutan. These animals live most of the time up to the trees of tropical forests. Physically they have reddish brown hair, voluminous body, long arms, short legs and no tail. Males have two large flaps in the cheeks. Generally they are more solitary than other apes and they can live over 30 years. They feed mainly on fruit and leaves. The orangutan is an animal in danger of extinction due to poaching, illegal pet trade and habitat destruction.
